Applications Available for PennDOT Winter Maintenance Program, Says Hickernell
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will again this year sponsor a winter maintenance program for a variety of positions to supplement the permanent workforce, Rep. Dave Hickernell (R-Lancaster/Dauphin) said today.
Positions will be available for temporary equipment operators, mechanics, trades helpers, clerks and typists. The program runs from September through April.
The majority of positions are for Transportation Equipment Operators (TEO). Applicants must have a Commercial Drivers License, with the airbrake restriction lifted and six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of single-chassis trucks with the ability to operate a manual transmission. Applicants will be tested during the interview process.
All potential candidates for TEO and mechanic classifications are subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Regulations that require pre-employment drug tests and random drug and alcohol tests. In addition, driving records will be checked for verification of license information.
In Lancaster County, which is part of PennDOT Engineering District 8-0, there is a need for 16 equipment operators (drivers), 6 clerks (radio room operators), one tradesman’s helper, and one diesel mechanic.
In Dauphin County, also part of District 8-0, there is a need for 21 drivers, four clerks for the radio room, one diesel mechanic, and one welder.
