9/11/2018
HARRISBURG – The Lancaster County House Republican Delegation announced a $2 million grant to benefit cancer patients by expanding Lancaster General Hospital’s Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

The Lancaster County Republican Delegation – State Reps. Bryan Cutler (R-Peach Bottom), Mindy Fee (R-Manheim), Keith J. Greiner (R-Upper Leacock), Dave Hickernell (R-West Donegal), Brett Miller (R-East Hempfield), Steve Mentzer (R-Lititz) and Dave Zimmerman (R-East Earl) – issued the following statement on the grant:

“While we would prefer that there be no need for expansion of the cancer institute, we want each man and woman to have access to a state-of-the-art facility that will aid in their recovery. Responding to a cancer diagnosis is an incredibly stressful and challenging experience, but it can be eased when the patient receives quality care made possible by an advanced facility.”

The project will add approximately 28,500 square feet of space on the ground floor of the cancer institute. It will include a new entrance, wellness center, rehabilitation center, urgent care center and telemedicine center.

The proton therapy treatment area will be on the floor above but will require a significant amount of support space on the ground floor. The project will add approximately 31,200 square feet of space on the first floor. It will include the proton therapy treatment space, the infusion center expansion and associated support spaces. It will also include a new public meeting space.

The project will be funded by a RACP grant. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs. RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
